Located on Main Street, the optometry office in Clarion was opened in 1935 as an individual private practice developed by James Snively, OD and Paul Rietz, O.D. and the pair opened an additional office location in 1949 in Belmond, Iowa. In the early 1980s, Dr. David Gildner returned to Iowa from optometry school to join them in a merged practice and over the years, the practice has had a rich history of providing quality eye care in the clinics. Following Dr. Rietz’s retirement in 1986, Drs. Snively and Gildner served the communities together until 2013 when Dr. Snively retired.
After 40 years in practice, David E. Gildner, O.D. joined efforts with Wolfe Eye Clinic at both his Belmond and Clarion locations in 2022. Following the merger, Dr. Gildner now sees patients in our Belmond office, as he and the team excitedly welcomed new Wolfe provider Megan Petersen, O.D. into the Clarion office. Both locations continue to offer the same high-quality care and friendly atmosphere the communities have come to expect.
A northwest Iowa native, Dr. Petersen received her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She furthered her studies by completing multiple externships including time at Tate County Vision Center in Senatobia, Mississippi and at Wolfe Eye Clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa.
