DR. DAVID D. SAGGAU – IOWA RETINA SPECIALIST

David D. Saggau, M.D. is a board-certified and fellowship-trained retina specialist. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa. Following an internship and ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota Dr. Saggau served as chief resident and assistant professor at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, Illinois.  

In 1990 he joined Wolfe Eye Clinic after completion of a retinal fellowship with Cleveland Retina Associates in Ohio. For the past 30 years, Dr. Saggau has been in practice at Wolfe Eye Clinic as a retina specialist, focusing on diabetic eye disorders, macular degeneration and surgical repair of the retina. 

Since returning to his native state of Iowa, Dr. Saggau has worked tirelessly to provide quality care for thousands of Iowans. He chose to become an ophthalmologist so that he could make a significant difference in his patients’ quality of life. That commitment to his patients has fueled his career and sustained his energies to provide quality patient care over the past three decades. In his own words, "I would unhesitatingly pursue the same career path at the same clinic in this same great state if I could do it all over again".

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Saggau has enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the many clinical retinal research projects at Wolfe Eye Clinic. His participation in the clinic's growth while maintaining the highest quality of care during his tenure is an important source of mutual pride and remains a strong career goal.

Dr. Saggau and his wife, Kris, raised four children, and they enjoy various sporting and musical pursuits. Maintaining good physical fitness and experiencing the great outdoors of Iowa has been a shared family bond.
